Norwich Free Academy hosted its 5th Annual Honor the Game: Tip Off Classic, Monday, January 16, 2017.

The doubleheader celebrating the Positive Coaching Alliance's ROOTS of the game (respect for rules, opponents, officials, team and self) features Girls vs. RHAM (Andover, Hebron, and Marlborough, CT), followed by the Boys vs. Classical (Providence, RI).

A special halftime ceremony, held during the boys basketball game in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, recognized three groups of students – NFA Martin Luther King Scholarship winners, members and officers of the Roberstide Duncan Youth Council, and those who distinguished themselves in the NAACP ACT-SO Program.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Trust Fund of Greater New London County selects a handful of students to receive annual $20,000 scholarships. This year, two NFA seniors, Junior Dufort and Tayla Wilson were named recipients.

The president of the Roberstine Duncan Youth Council is Junior Dufort, and members include Allen Dufort, Alex Dufort, Guercie Guerrier, Brianna McPhereson, Luc Paul, Sariah Poe, Luc Henry Portes and Dakota Rivera.

Those recognized for performance in the Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics include Junior Dufort, Fritny Fontilus, Guercie Gurrier, Eudora Poe, Sariah Poe, Luc Portes and Daisy Wang.
