|NFA Unified players and coaches pose with State Senator Ted Kennedy and Special Olympics Connecticut President Beau Doherty.|
This year the Unified Sports Michael's Cup High School of the Year is Norwich Free Academy. This honor comes to NFA after being awarded the Unified Banner Champion School in December. NFA will be recognized for this award at the Michael's Cup Dinner, Monday, April 24, at the Aqua Turf in Southington. NFA will house the Michael's Cup Trophy for the entire year.
The Michael's Cup Trophy is funded through Michaels Jewelers and honors top programs throughout the state.
Of the honor, Unified Coach Chris Staley says, "I am incredibly proud that our Unified Program has been awarded the Michael's Cup as the top overall high school in the State of Connecticut. From the Athletic Director, to the Administration, the Faculty, the Coaches, and our Unified Athletes and Partners, we enjoy tremendous support, and that is a huge part of why NFA's Unified program has been so successful. At a time when much of the world is focused on differences, this is a wonderful reminder of the work NFA Unified has done to build a more positive and inclusive school culture. We look forward to continuing to grow our program, and to provide opportunities for students of all abilities to develop friendships through sports and Unified Activities here at NFA."
NFA will proudly display the Michael's Cup Trophy as an honor to our student-athletes and our Unified Program.
