Jemal Davis '90 is stepping down from his position as Norwich Free Academy's Varsity Head Football Coach to pursue professional opportunities in educational leadership.
Athletic Director Eric Swallow announced Davis's decision late Monday afternoon to key stakeholders in the Football Program, including student-athletes, coaches, and administration. Swallow says a search for Davis' successor will begin immediately.
Davis began working with NFA's Football Program in 1998 and assumed the position of Head Coach in 2008. He took the Wildcats to 5 state playoffs and 2 Class LL Championship games in 2012 and 2014. In 2012 Davis set a school record at NFA with a 12-0 regular season after a previous 2010 undefeated regular season.
His overall record as NFA's Varsity Head Football Coach is 70-28.
"This is a professional decision to advance his career," says Swallow. "Jemal has done a great job for the Academy as Head Football Coach."
"This has been a tremendous opportunity," says Davis." The support of the entire NFA community propelled me to look ahead to educational leadership. I am making this decision because of my experience at NFA, and I look forward to what the future holds for me."
