Guidance, College & Career Planning
School counselors at NFA take a proactive role in students’ lives from the time they first set foot on our campus through their post-graduation planning. A comprehensive, developmental school-counseling program is critical to the success of our students. Career exploration and college planning begins in the first year at NFA as we begin to prepare students for the decisions they will make in future years. Each student, with the assistance of their counselor and parents, develops an individualized SSP (Student Success Plan). Parents and students are invited to attend a meeting to begin the process of developing that plan in the second semester of their first year. Planning meetings are then held each year throughout your time at NFA.
Students have access to a variety of resources and opportunities to further their post-graduate plans. College and Career Pathways provide students with information and opportunities. The Transition Career Center is open weekdays to assist students in college searches, resume creation, interviewing skills, military information and more. The department is committed to ensuring that all students:
- will attain the highest levels of academic achievement of which they are capable
- will understand the connections between their education and the transition to training and career choices
- will graduate with a plan for their success
- will develop good decision-making skills, set personal goals and demonstrate respect for others
