The English Language Learners (ELL) program at NFA functions as part of the Diversity program and serves students by supporting, promoting and coordinating our multicultural efforts. The ELL program specifically addresses the area of academic achievement for students from diverse racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. ELL students at NFA represent 15 different countries and languages. There are 18 teachers and support staff that facilitate the program. ELL students receive instruction that is based on individual language proficiency and assessment. Instruction promotes academic growth and success for all learners.
Our goal is that all students who enter the ELL program progress through a sequence of courses intended to support students through the process of becoming proficient in reading, writing and speaking English. Students move from one level to the next based on assessments and other established criterion. The program allows students to accelerate their language acquisition and literacy through a focus on academic achievement and an emphasis on the value of the social and cultural knowledge that each student brings with them. For more information on the program, please contact Leo Butler, Director of Diversity.
