An important update - November 13

November 13

I would like to thank many of you for participating in our recent survey regarding any potential holiday plans you may have in place. This information is very helpful as we continue to monitor the health metrics in our community. Our focus remains on providing the safest environment for our students, faculty and staff, and this additional data point is a valuable part of that equation. I will continue to keep you informed as necessary.

While community numbers in Norwich have improved since early October, we still remain in 'red alert status,' as do many of our partner communities. Mitigation efforts now are paramount to controlling the spread in our community. I encourage you and your family to remain vigilant in wearing a mask, keeping your social distance and self-monitoring for symptoms. And, most importantly, anyone feeling sick
should not be coming to school.

I am also writing to inform you of four additional positive COVID-19 cases in the Norwich Free Academy community.

In three of these student cases, there was no exposure on the NFA campus. All guidelines and recommendations of the Uncas Health District and our Medical Center are being followed.

In the fourth case, the student was last on campus November 6. The student is also following all guidelines and recommendations of the Uncas Health District and our Medical Center. All contact tracing has been concluded and any individual determined to be a close contact has been notified and also following necessary guidelines.

To date, our tracing efforts indicate no passing of the disease on our campus. The cases we have had represent community based spread.

Thank you again for your continued patience and cooperation. I will provide further updates as needed.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian M. Kelly
Head of School
