Step-by-step Instructions for Incoming 9th Grade Students

The online course registration window for incoming 9th-grade students is now open. Detailed course registration instructions  can be found below. You may go back and change your selections if necessary.
 
*Please be sure you are allowing pop-ups in your browser.  Otherwise, the course selection screen will not appear.
 
  1. Sign into PowerSchool by clicking the icon on your right. Use your student credentials that  were provided.  You should have received your username and password in the mail.

2. Once logged in, click on the "Forms" menu option, located in the left-hand navigation bar in PowerSchool (indicated by the red arrow).

3. Select the ‘Course Requests Incoming Grade 9 SY2026’ link (indicated by the magenta box in the above image).

4. To make your course selections, click in each blank selection box and a drop down menu of course options will appear.  Pick courses in order of preference.

5. Make one selection and then click in the selection box again, to add an additional course.  There are many options for course electives.  Make sure to scroll down through the menu to see all available courses for selection.

NOTE:  Students will be placed in 4 core academic classes (Science, English, Math, Social Studies) based on data and recommendations from the middle school.    Every 9th grade student should carry a total of 6.5 to 7 credits.  Refer to the online course catalog for course descriptions. In addition to your assigned core classes you will need to choose:

  • One Wellness course (.5 credit)
  • (1) credit in a World Language course is required for graduation from NFA. Students have the option to register for their first World Language course in grade 9. Keep in mind, post secondary colleges and universities often require students to take two to three years of the same language at the high school level.
  • Additional elective courses (1.5 - 2.5 credits)
  • Alternate elective courses

6. Click on the ‘Submit’ button in the lower right-hand corner of the page to complete your course registration (indicated by the red oval). A completed course selection screen looks like the example below.

NOTE:  This form can only be completed and submitted once.  If you need to make adjustments to the request form after it has been submitted, please email Jason Bakoulis, Cranston House Principal, bakoulisj@nfaschool.org.

7.  If the form has been submitted correctly, you will receive a ‘Thank You’ confirmation screen.

8. You may then sign out of PowerSchool - browse to the upper right of the PowerSchool screen and select, ‘Sign Out.’
