Jay Berard, Head Coach
Jay Berard took over as the NFA Boys Tennis coach in 2018. In that time, he has doubled team size, and his players have been cited for their sportsmanship and their efforts leading to multiple All-Academic Conference Awards. The program continues to challenge the best teams in southeastern Connecticut. Prior to taking leading the NFA team, Berard coached the E.O. Smith girls team in 2011 and 2012, with a combined regular-season record of 22-9 and a state team tournament record of 2-2. Three singles players and two doubles teams earned CIAC State Open tournament entries. He coached the Berlin High School Girls team from 2015-2017, with a combined record of 30-18, 1-2 in the state team tournament. The team captured the CCC conference title in 2016. Twice, a singles player qualified for the CIAC State Open and four separate doubles teams did the same during his tenure. Berard played four years of varsity tennis at Lyman Memorial High School. He was a conference doubles finalist in his freshman and senior years, twice qualifying for the CIAC State Open Tournament. He also played in several Junior USTA tournaments throughout New England. He continues to play in high-level adult tennis leagues and tournaments, winning several 4.5-level leagues and tournaments. He currently captains the Neipsic Tennis Club men's team in the Greater Hartford Inter-club Tennis League.
