Coaches
Tom Teixeira, Head Coach
Tom Teixeira has served as the head coach for boys outdoor track and field at Norwich Free Academy since 2016. He also served as the head coach for boys and girls indoor track from 2014-2022. A 2009 NFA grad, Teixeira participated in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track for four years under coaches Gene McGrath, Jemal Davis and Chad Johnson. He was, to put it kindly, a junior varsity all-star. During his first year teaching English at his alma mater, Teixeira’s coaching career unexpectedly began when the indoor track and field team desperately needed a coach. Since then, he has coached jumping, throwing, sprinting and distance events and has become a USATF Certified Level 1 coach. During his tenure, Teixeira’s teams have won a total of eight ECC Championships and have been Class LL runners-up three times in eight seasons. Teixeira is passionate about track and field because it’s a truly inclusive sport that welcomes athletes of all abilities and rewards them for the work they put in. He believes athletics can be a valuable pathway for young people to develop and improve their communication and executive functioning skills while working and growing in a family environment anchored in self-improvement and personal enrichment. Teixeira is honored, proud and incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work in athletics in his hometown and at his alma mater.
