12 named to Wildcat Athletics Hall of Fame

Eleven outstanding athletes and the most successful coach in school history make up the members of the Norwich Free Academy Hall of Fame induction class of 2022.

The new members will be celebrated at a banquet Friday, October 28, at the Holiday Inn in Norwich. The event, which begins at 5 pm, is open to the public. Tickets are $60 and can be ordered at nfaschool.org/athletics/hof.

This is the first Academy class honored since 2018. The pandemic paused the process in 2020.

“This class represents the very best in NFA athletic history,” said Athletic Director Roy Wentworth. “The accomplishments of this group are inspiring on a number of levels and continue to show the success our athletes have while on campus and beyond.”

Wentworth heads a selection committee which, he says, is both fun and incredibly challenging. “The records speak for themselves,” he said. “The biggest challenge for the committee is narrowing down the list while ensuring equal balance from different eras. It all speaks to the lasting success of our athletics program.”

Wentworth also said the committee will be seeking input from the public when the time comes to select the next class.

“We want to make sure we have all the information available to us,” he said. “When the time comes, we’ll have a way for the public to provide verifiable information to help our selection process.”
