New cheerleading coach named

Shaheer Ahmed '18 NFA's new cheerleading coach

Shaheer Ahmed '18 has been named the new cheerleading coach at Norwich Free Academy, the first male ever to hold the position.

“Shaheer is ready for this role,” said NFA Athletic Director Roy Wentworth. “He has experience in the sport, both here at the Academy and in college, and I am confident in his ability to lead what has become a very successful program, recently winning back-to-back ECC championships.”

“I am very grateful for this opportunity,” said Ahmed. “NFA has been a school of many firsts, and I am honored to be the first male head cheer coach in school history. I am extremely excited to start the season and have set some key goals for the team. I hope to be able to inspire athletes, just like coaches and mentors did in my life.”

Ahmed, a 2018 NFA graduate, will graduate from UCONN in May 2022. He is a member of the UCONN cheer team. During his cheer career at NFA, Ahmed was recognized as an ECC scholar athlete, and he received the sportsmanship award.
