I am writing to inform you of six additional positive COVID-19 cases in the Norwich Free Academy community. Five of the cases involve students, and all of them tested positive while we were in our remote learning period. Therefore, there has been no exposure on our campus. And, as we welcomed students back to campus today, those who tested positive remain home following guidelines of the Uncas Health District and our own medical center.
The sixth case is a member of our staff who was last on campus October 19 and is currently quarantining at home under guidance of the Uncas Health District. This individual had no interaction with students at the time because we were in remote learning. Anyone deemed a close contact with this staff member has been notified and provided with appropriate information by the health district and our medical center.
To date, our tracing efforts indicate no passing of the disease on our campus. The positive cases we have had represent community based spread. Mitigation efforts now are paramount to controlling the spread in our community. I encourage you and your family to remain vigilant in wearing a mask, keeping your social distance and self-monitoring for symptoms. And, most importantly, anyone feeling sick should not be coming to school.
Thank you again for your continued patience and cooperation. I will provide further updates as needed.
