The Wildcat Lawn
You have seen the lawn in front of Norton gym filled with flags during our Field of Honor. Well, wait until you see it filled with Wildcats -- one representing each member of the Class of 2020! Nearly 600 Wildcats will be a sight to behold as we pay tribute to each member of your class, all of whom will be NFA Wildcats forever! This should be decorated no later than Monday, June 1.
On-Campus Pick-Up Days: Caps and Gowns and Celebratory Lawn Signs
On Monday, June 1, Tuesday, June 2, and Wednesday, June 3, we look forward to welcoming you back to campus to pick up your cap and gown, as well as a celebratory lawn sign that is yours to display as you wish at home. Please show your Wildcat Pride in the community.
Note 1: Pick-up times will be from 8:30 to 11 am and again from 1 to 3:30 pm each day June 1-3. Due to our grab-and-go meal distribution, pick up will not be possible between 11 am and 1 pm.
If you have not yet paid for your cap and gown, please contact Mrs. Howe at 860-425-5511 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note 2: The pick-up process will follow proper social distancing and other CT COVID-19 guidelines. Therefore, we appreciate you wearing masks and working with us to ensure the safety of one and all on the pick-up days.
If you are unable to come to campus on these days, we will contact you to determine the best way to get your cap and gown and lawn sign to you.
Virtual Award and Recognition Ceremonies
As previously announced last week, we will be broadcasting highly professional virtual ceremonies that honor and recognize the achievements of NFA students according to the following schedule:
- Monday, June 8, 6 pm - Annual Visual and Performing Arts Awards
- Tuesday, June 9, 6 pm - Norwich Free Academy Athletic Awards - Champions Night
- Wednesday, June 10, 6 pm - Class Night and Awards Ceremony
- Thursday, June 11, 4 pm - Commencement Exercises – NFA Class of 2020
Note: Specific programming and viewing details will be provided in advance of each broadcast.
Graduation Day – the Ceremony
Yes, there will be a Virtual Graduation broadcast at 4 pm on Thursday, June 11. And, it is our hope that our Wildcat family will be together to watch it! Here’s our plan:
We have secured the grounds of Dodd Stadium to set up a drive-in movie atmosphere (complete with giant LED screens) in the parking lot and provide a place for the class to watch the ceremony together! One car per class member will be allowed and nobody will be allowed to be outside of the cars at Dodd Stadium. However, we will be together for this event and everyone will watch the virtual ceremony on the large screens and listen to the broadcast on your car radio. And, that is a perfect way to set up our next event – the grand finale!
Graduation Day – the Parade of Decorated Cars
We encourage you to tastefully and creatively decorate your car prior to your arrival at Dodd Stadium and join a parade immediately following the ceremony. It promises to be spectacular and more specifics regarding the parade route and car decorating guidelines will be coming soon. Our planning team is continuing to work through logistics.
On Campus Photo Op and Diploma Pick-Up
We understand and appreciate the sentimental value of a photo in your cap and gown on campus, and we are excited to offer you that opportunity as well. Beginning Sunday, June 14, through Saturday, June 20, you will be able to sign up for an appointment for your family to come to campus for that very purpose. We will have photo stations set up on the front lawn and even provide a photographer to take some photos. You are welcome to take your own pictures, too.
During this time, you will also receive your actual NFA diploma, as well as a host of other items – Graduation and Class Night programs, special awards you may have received and more. This would also be an opportunity for you to return any NFA property you may have in your possession.
We are working through the complicated logistics now and will be providing the scheduling details soon. This important process will be facilitated by appointment to ensure that we are properly adhering to all Connecticut guidelines for safety and social distancing. We realize that this campus photo element is extremely important and are committed to providing your family with this unique opportunity.
The NFA Parents Council is planning a special event for the Class of 2020 to be held in January 2021. More details to come. Also, any other type of live and ‘in-person’ summer event will be predicated upon the guidelines provided by state government and public health officials. A summer event would only be possible if the state mandated health and safety guidelines are significantly relaxed and the timing is right. The planning committee is monitoring this situation regularly.
