Bill Howard '90 named Outstanding Coach of the Year

Norwich Free Academy’s Girls Volleyball Head Coach, William Howard ‘90 has been named “Outstanding Coach of the Year” in Girls Volleyball by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association.

The Connecticut High School Coaches Association will honor 26 of its members as “Outstanding Coaches of the Year” at its 54th annual recognition dinner, May 10, 2018, at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington, CT.

Howard, a history and social studies teacher, has served as Norwich Free Academy’s Girls Volleyball Head Coach since 1999. His career record is 208-171, which includes one ECC Tournament title (2009) and one Class LL State Title (2008). In the 2017 season, he earned his 200th win. This season, the team went 9-11 (5-3 ECC), placing 2nd in the ECC, and made it to the CIAC Class LL state tournament.

At the end of the season, Howard decided to step down to spend more time focusing upon his family after 19 years of dedicated service to the Girls Volleyball program.

Howard will continue to be the head coach of the Boys Golf team.
