Junior Allyson Lewis jumped five feet seven inches to finish eighth in the Championship High Jump at New Balance Indoor Nationals, Friday, March 9. The jump earned her a top ten finish and was her personal best.
Earlier this season, Lewis captured the Class LL and State Open high jump titles, but faltered at the New England Championships on March 3, clearing only five feet five inches for an underwhelming tenth place finish.
Lewis sought to regain her composure and perform her best in Manhattan on Friday despite her disappointing finish at the New England Championships. After missing her first attempt at five feet three inches, Lewis cleared five feet five inches and five feet seven inches on her first attempts. At the end of the competition, Lewis was locked in a four-way tie for fourth place. The early miss broke the tie and cost her a top six finish, which would have earned her All-American honors.
Colorodo’s Anna Hall won the competition with a jump of five feet, eight and three-quarter inches.
Freshman Kayla Park also competed at the national competition. She finished twenty-first in the Freshman 400 Meters with a time of 61.91.
