Children's Art Summer Camp - Grades 3-8

Saturday Morning Children’s Art Summer Camp offers children in grades 3 – 8, the opportunity to experience the arts for a week, have fun creating while challenging their imaginations and meeting new friends.  

Students create 4-5 projects and view exhibitions in Slater Museum.

Projects include Printmaking, Painting, Clay, Sculpture, Design, and Drawing. Each week features different projects.

Students work on projects each morning, break for lunch, and continue in the afternoon. This is a great opportunity for students who love art.

AGE: Children in grades 3 - 8
FEE:  Week 1 or 2 - $175.00
          Week 1 and 2 - $300.00
(Fees include the cost of supplies)

NOTES TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS:

Advanced registration for Saturday Morning Art Summer Camp is strongly recommended to secure a student’s place in class and to ensure that the class will run. Enrollment is limited and accepted on a first-paid basis. Registrations will not be processed without payment. Registration closes on Friday, June 28th.  Cancellations for class must be made by prior to July 5th for a complete refund.

When registering, please complete the enclosed registration and medical form.  All students are required to have both forms on file.

NFA Public Relations/Student Names and Photos - Norwich Free Academy often uses images/photos of students on our website, social media, promotional materials and advertisements, . If you do not want your child’s name and/or picture to appear in any promotional materials, in print or digital form, please contact Visual & Performing Arts Department Head, Alysha Carmody, in writing on or before July 15, 2019.

STEM Academy - Grades 5-8

Join Faculty from Norwich Free Academy and the University of Connecticut Neag School of Education for a free, one-week summer program on the NFA Campus.

Imagine the possibilities

  • Apply mathmatics to modern day problems

Combine science, technology, engineering and math skills

  • Solve complex problems
  • Push the limits of your knowledge and skill
  • Invent, create, develop and dream
  • Have fun, laugh, work in teams and meet new friends

This is a FREE program for students entering grades 5-8.

Session One: July 8-11
8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Engineering: students will work in design teams to create solutions for a variety of engineering challenges.

8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Scientific Modeling: students will use NGSS grounded scientific modeling to tackle real world problems, while strengthening understanding in both life and physical sciences.

FOR STUDENT MUSICIANS ENTERING GRADES 5-9

Join faculty and student mentors at Norwich Free Academy for a week of music and fun. Open to all students entering grades 5-9 with one year of experience on their instrument.*

2 Band Programs

• Level 1 Band: Grades 5-7
• Level 2 Band: Grades 8-9

Daily Spirit Days

  • "Minute To Win It" Monday - Compete with your team in Minute To Win-style challenges
  • Color Wars Tuesday - Show your team spirit by dressing in team colors, and participating in an afternoon of section vs. section to be named Color War Champions
  • Wacky Wednesday - Crazy hair, backwards clothes, ANYTHING GOES on Wacky Wednesday!
  • Water Olympics Thursday - Bring a towel and flip-flops for this CRAZY afternoon of water competitions!
  • Concert Day Friday - Wear your 2019 camp t-shirt for the last day of Summer Band! Campers will be treated to a pizza party before putting on a final concert for family and friends!

June 17-21

Wildcat Beginnings - Incoming 9th Graders

This program is a two day orientation to becoming an NFA Wildcat 9th Grader. Explore a "new you in a new school" - collaborate with upper class mentors, learn your way about campus, familiarize yourself with high school expectations, skills and strategies, participate in a community service project, and make new friends in the Class of 2023. 

There is no fee for ninth graders registered to enter NFA in the fall. No transportation. First come, first served. Participants must pre-register to attend and be medically cleared.

Students continue to build on their growth, success, and commitment as student-athletes at Norwich Free Academy.

Wildcat Hoop School - Grades 3-9

Instruction by NFA coaches and players with a focus on baseketball skill development and fun! All kids will recieve a basketball and t-shirt with their registration.

Wildcat Volleyball Camp - Grades 6-9

The 2019 Wildcat Volleyball Camp will be led by NFA’s Varsity Girls and Boys Coach Ryan Czaja, Girls JV Coach Erin Kennick, and Girls Freshman Coach Alison Knuijt. Coach Czaja has eight years of coaching experience at both the high school and college level and is a former college volleyball player. Coach Kennick had a successful career as a volleyball player at South Windsor High School and is entering her sixth season as a NFA volleyball coach. Coach Knuijt has experience playing club and high school volleyball, which led her to four years as a collegiate libero. Assisting the coaching staff and serving as camp counselors will be past and present NFA players.

Wildcat Soccer Clinic - Grades 3 - 12

LEARN TO PLAY THE GAME OF SOCCER ‘INTERNATIONAL STYLE’
 

Objectives

  • To instill the fundamentals of soccer
  • To improve self-esteem and confidence
  • To experience an authentic soccer atmosphere, including conditioning, drills, skills, ball control, scrimmages, shooting practice, goalkeeper training, and fun games

Campers should bring a snack and a drink each day (Please no glass!). Players should wear soccer equipment and bring their own soccer balls.  Please label ALL equipment.
