Proposed Legislation Impacts Independence Again

Two years ago Wildcat nation helped to defeat legislation which would have undermined Norwich Free Academy's independence by mandating public representation on the Board of Trustees.

This year, a nearly identical bill has been proposed (Governor's Bill 874 AN ACT CONCERNING EDUCATION INITIATIVES AND SERVICES IN CONNECTICUT). NFA believes the legislation represents governmental overreach into the independent governance of our school. Public representatives may be the financial agents of their towns, rather than the stewards of a mission-driven Norwich Free Academy.

Norwich Free Academy will vigorously oppose this legislation through every avenue possible.

Today, NFA officials filed written testimony opposing the bill before the Connecticut General Assembly's Education Committee.

As a member of the alumni family, we will keep you informed of the status of this legislation, and we will post information and resources for your reference and use.

Thank you, as always, for your support of an independently governed, privately endowed NFA.
