Norwich Free Academy is dedicated to ensuring that students graduate with skills to help them create a path of continual progress. We recognize the critical importance of regular school attendance to academic success. Every day, students learn something new at school, and, when a student misses out on just one day of school, they miss out on many opportunities - to learn, to connect, to experience. We miss our students when they are not at school. Let’s work together to ensure that students are in school every day!
Did you Know?
- Too many absences can cause students to fall behind academically and socially.
- Missing 10% of the school year (18 absences in a 180 day school year) can lead to reading deficits.
- Students can fall behind and become off track to graduate even if they miss a day or two every few weeks.
- Tardiness may lead to poor school performance.

Reporting an Absence
- On the morning of any absence, a parent/guardian should call the Attendance Office, 860-425-5788, or email attendance@nfaschool.org to report a student’s absence.
- Provide written documentation outlining the reason for the absence, and appropriate medical or professional documentation as needed.
- Meet with members of your student’s grade-level support team.
Daily Notifications
If a student's parent/guardian has not contacted the school by the end of the second channel (period) of the day to report an absence, NFA will reach out with an automated attendance robocall, email and text message to report the absence, in an attempt to get verification for your student's absence. Click the email link or phone number to contact the school. Please do not respond directly to the email or text message as the system cannot accept incoming emails or texts.
