NFA's Poet Laureate is...
The wait is over; the results are in! NFA's Poet Laureate for 2020 is . . . Julia Browning '21! Please join Ms. Cholewa and Ms. Roberts in congratulating Julia for her wonderful accomplishment, and show your support for the arts at NFA by coming to see her perform her award-winning poetry at the Mystic Museum of Art on March 20, 2020. The show, entitled Youth Will Be Served, starts at 7:00 pm, but doors open at 6:30. Be sure to join us there! Congratulations Julia!
 
Sam and Randy Deglin Art & Noise Scholarship
The Sam and Randy Deglin Art & Noise Scholarship, established by the friends and classmates of Samantha and Randy Deglin, is accepting submissions of original creative student work revealing artistic ability through the written word, the performance of a dramatic or musical piece, or works of visual art. For more information on this $1,000 scholarship and application instructions, click here. Submission deadline: Thursday, April 9.

CareerConn 2020
Attention 11th and 12th grade students: CT Office of Higher Education's is hosting CT's largest one day occupational career expo, 'CareerConn 2020' on March. 19th, 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM in Hartford. During the field trip students will have the opportunity to visit the expo and learn from industry insiders during six career track workshops: healthcare, automotive, hospitality, computer based occupations, manufacturing/construction, professional beauty. For more information or to pick up a permission slip visit the College and Career Center, 1221. The trip is open to the first 40 students who return permission slips.
 
Geosciences Scholarship Opportunity  
Attention 10th and 11th grade students: UConn’s Department of Geoscience & Pre-College Summer (PCS) are excited to share a scholarship opportunity for summer 2020. If awarded this scholarship students will be able to attend a week long GEOPATHS: Introduction to Geosciences course at UConn’s Storrs campus.

PCS is designed to provide students with a realistic preview of an academically rigorous learning environment and give them a contextual sense of what life as a university student feels like.  Students will walk away with an increased sense of independence on how to navigate new situations, such as living with a roommate, eating in a residence hall, and adjusting to a new environment.

Be a Volunteer -- a campus runner, tour guide, reading buddy, or a volunteer in one of many other opportunities on campus or in the community...Sign-ups happening now in Room 7101
  • Project Outreach is looking for volunteers for all study hall channels for the second semester. Volunteers help with the delivery of passes and small projects. Volunteers will have their study hall switched to the Project Outreach room. See Mrs Savage to sign up in room 7101
  • Project Outreach and Norwich Youth Services is hosting a two-day program on youth leadership open to students in grade 9 and 10. The program will run March 28 and April 4. Click here for more information or see Mrs. Savage in Room 7101.

Spring Sports Dates and Registration Info
Students are reminded that the deadline for FamilyID online registrations for the 2019-20 spring sports season is Friday, March 13, 2020NO STUDENT MAY PARTICIPATE IN TRYOUTS OR PRACTICES WITHOUT HAVING BEEN PRE-APPROVED through FamilyID. The approval process may take several days for the Medical Center to verify your information. Please do not wait until the last minute to register. Coaches will have a digital roster of approved student-athletes. Learn about the new registration process, and setup a FamilyID account, by visiting the student-athlete participation page.

Boys Outdoor Track
All boys interested in spring track should attend this brief pre-season meeting, Tuesday, March 3, 2:20 pm in the Ensemble Room.
 
Boys Volleyball
Pre-Season Meeting - Tuesday, March 3 @ 2:30 pm, rm 7130. For any boys interested in playing volleyball this spring season.

Girls Outdoor Track

Football
Mandatory informational meeting, Thursday, March 5, 3:30 pm, in the Ensemble Room, for anyone who is planning to play football during the 2020 season. If you are unable to attend see Coach Bakoulis prior to the meeting. Please bring a notepad, pen, and your cell phone.
