REMINDER: Midterms begin this week!
Midterm exams begin Thursday, January 16. As a reminder, the exam schedule and other information is posted to your MyNFA student portal dashboard. Be sure to review that information thoroughly. And, these next few days are your chance to check in with your teachers. Good luck!

The SAB is sponsoring two upcoming school spirit days:
  • Thursday, January 23 -- NFA Day -- let’s have a fresh start to semester two! 
MLK Freedom March
Students interested in celebrating Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy are invited to join the FREEDOM MARCH, Monday, January 20, 2020 at 1:15 pm. The event kicks off in front of Norwich City Hall (David Ruggles Freedom Courtyard). The March will proceed to Evans Memorial AME Zion Church at 2 McKinley Avenue. At 2:00 pm, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Program will be held and a celebratory reflection will be delivered.
 
Grade 11 SAT Prep Course Info
11th grade students have the option of enrolling in an SAT-preparation class to be held on the NFA campus during the months of January, February, and March. You will have the choice of taking the course at various times based on your individual schedule. For more information, check your student Gmail account, or go to your MyNFA>Student Portal. 
 
NFA Poet Laureate Contest
The 2020 Poet Laureate Contest has begun! Submit your three best poems in a single Google Doc with your first and last name as the title of the document to Ms. Roberts (robertsk@nfaschool.org) or Ms. Cholewa (cholewaa@nfaschool.org) by the deadline of February 12, 2020. The winner will have the honor of being NFA's Poet Laureate for an entire year, receive 100 dollars, be required to attend a Master Class in poetry at the Mystic Museum of Art and also be required to perform his or her poetry at the Mystic Museum of Art for a live audience on Friday March 20, 2020 at 7 pm. Don't miss this opportunity to get the acclaim you deserve!
 
Cat Shack is Hiring!
If you have a study hall during B, C, E, F or G channel during semester two, you can work in the Cat Shack. *The Cat Shack will be closed for inventory beginning Wednesday, January 15th and reopening on Friday, January 24th, at the start of the new semester.
 
Wildcat Loft Volunteers Needed!
The Wildcat LOFT is looking for student volunteers to work in the LOFT during their 2nd semester study hall. Duties include organizing clothing, folding and hanging clothing. Data entry and waiting on customers. Contact kutias@nfaschool.org, or stop by the Converse building room 6115, if interested.
 
WE'VE MOVED! COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER (CCC) -- The CCC has a new home in the Land Library (top of the stairs as you enter the library)! We're here to help with college essays and applications, resume writing, working papers, job placement, etc. Open hours:  7:15 a.m. – 2:45 p.m., Mon.-Thurs.; 7:15 a.m. – 2:15 p.m., Fri. Questions? Scholarship Opportunities for Seniors:
  • New England Red Sox Service Scholarship for Connecticut: $1000 scholarship (Feb. 7th deadline)
  • University of Connecticut ECE Scholarship: $500 scholarship (February 26th deadline), must be taking an ECE class to apply.
  • St Anthony Chapel Scholarship: Award Varies Year to Year (April 1st deadline)
  • Chelsea Groton Bank Scholarship: $500.00 (April 9th deadline)
New London Scholars Program
The New London Scholars Program at Connecticut Colleges allows 2 seniors to take a class in the Spring semester at Connecticut College for free. Students are responsible for the cost of the books and transportation. If you are interested in more information, please see your counselor or Mrs. Elliott.
 
28th Annual Black College Tour
April 13-18, 2020 (during Spring break). The tour will visit Howard University, Morgan State, Coppin State, University of Maryland, Virginia State, Virginia Union. Applications in the Diversity Office in Converse.

Be a Volunteer -- a campus runner, tour guide, reading buddy, or a volunteer in one of many other opportunities on campus or in the community...Sign-ups happening now in Room 7101
  • Backus Hospital will be accepting applications for their summer volunteer program starting February 1st until February 7th. If you are interested in applying for this program please see Mrs. Savage in the Project Outreach Office room 7101 for more information and an application. Applications will not be accepted early or late for this program so plan accordingly.
