There is a great deal of information in this edition of Sunday Night Reminder. Please be sure to review all the information below.
Tomorrow begins an A week with Wednesday classes being A-D.
Parents Night -- date and calendar change
We will be hosting an in-person Parents Night Thursday, September 23. Information is being sent home this week with more information. This was originally scheduled for September 16. Please note also that the half day scheduled for September 17 is now September 24. September 17 will be a full day of school. Click here
for the revised yearly calendar.
Parents -- important reminder!
Please log into PowerSchool to complete necessary electronic forms related to legal notifications, opt-outs and consent for your children to receive over-the-counter medications. To get there, log on to PowerSchool, click forms in the left column, click Legal Notifications, Opt-Outs and Medical Consent. The form is self-explanatory at that point. Thank you for your cooperation.
Norwich Public Schools will once again be offering a late bus for Norwich students starting Monday, September 13. The bus will run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 pm. Students need to sign up for the late bus in the Campus Safety Welcome Center (bottom floor of Slater) by 1:15 pm each day.
Absences and credits -- a change in policy
Please note that credit will be withheld when a student exceeds six class absences in a semester course or 12 absences in a full-year course.
Our New Attendance Office
This year, if your student is sick, will be tardy or needs early dismissal, we’ve made it easier for you to share that information. One number will do it, no matter what building your student is in. Call 860-425-5788.
What if a student needs an early dismissal?
Parents: if your child needs to leave school early for an appointment or other reason, please have them bring a note that morning to the attendance office in Cranston. If our team does not receive a note in the morning, dismissal will be delayed, especially if it is during a lunch wave. We understand circumstances happen, but most early dismissals are planned, and having your student bring in a note will ensure they are ready to leave at the appropriate time.
In addition, all early dismissals are from the main gate. Only medical dismissals are from the north gate.
Students are expected to bring a laptop -- either an NFA-issued Chromebook or their own Chromebook/laptop (not a phone or tablet) -- to school each day. This year, there will not be Chromebook carts in the classrooms. However, we are providing Chromebooks to NFA students upon parent/guardian request. Click here
to learn more about our program and the details associated with it, as well as to fill out the form to secure a Chromebook for your student.
Secondary food purchase location
A reminder that a food cart is available near Latham and Shattuck every day during lunch. Avoid the lines in the cafeteria and grab your lunch here! Full meals, as well as pizza, cold sandwiches, salads, snacks, drinks and more are available. Cafeteria seating will be limited. Students are encouraged to eat in Slater A and B, as well as any outside spaces across campus.
Parents: if your student has been vaccinated, please provide proof to our Medical Center. This will help immensely with contact tracing and making the determination of who needs to be quarantined if determined as a close contact to a person who tests positive. Please take a picture of the front of the card and email it to email@example.com
You should have received an electronic pass through your NFA email from Mrs. Danieluk to attend your group SSP meeting this week with your school counselors. Please be sure to attend!
Audition date set for “Clue”
Auditions for the hilarious fall play "Clue" will be held Tuesday, September 21, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm in Slater Auditorium. Students may leave immediately after their audition. Students who receive a callback will also attend Wednesday, September 22, from 3 to 4:45 in Slater for the entire time. Audition material and full script are available here. Lost and Found reminder
Lost and Found is located in the Project Outreach room (7101) in Tirrell for all items except for electronics (phones, computers, air pods, apple watches, etc.) which are housed in the campus safety office. Non-electronic items that are brought to the lost and found will be kept for 15 days, after which they will be thrown out or donated to charity depending on the condition. Due to the number of items that accumulate, we are unable to keep items beyond that time frame.
Financial aid and more -- a virtual workshop
Barnum Financial Group is hosting two virtual workshops for NFA families on Exploring Financial Aid and Cash Management Solutions. The first is September 20, and the second is October 28. Both begin at 6 pm. You are welcome to attend both, but it’s only necessary to attend one. The presentation will specifically address needs-based information, resources for merit aid, FAFSA versus CSS profile, tax code incentives, tuition discounting, and minimizing student loans. The workshop is open to 10th, 11th and 12th grade families.
